Konzerthaus Dortmund: Symphony In Red 

(2007) 

by Hamburg based motion house Sehsucht have created the mesmerising spot for Konzerthaus Dortmund through the agency Jung von Matt. Music by Fazil Say.

Jung von Matt approached Sehsucht with the brief, "Liquid Blood" and as luck would have it their director Niko Tziopanos had just spent a semester with his design students experimenting with "Ink as medium and form for animation". From the outset the decision was made to film liquid in water as opposed to using Realflow or similar software, as the team felt most inspiration from working with the natural medium.

The shoot took place in the less than opulent surroundings of the vestibule in the WC at the Sehsucht studio. A small aquarium was set up and the team spent a good deal of R&D team testing oils, inks and playing with the water consistency by introducing washing-up liquid.

"We also know how to work it the other way round. What looks like 3D-blood was filmed in real life. Out of consideration for the part-time vegetarians among us, we quickly abstained from the idea of making use of the resource 'porc blood'. Instead, fish tanks of all sizes and red liquids in all consistencies were obtained and the toilet was turned into our experimental lab. Eager to compete with any science fair, we pipetted, poured, shook, whirled and messed around until the right colour followed the dance the director wanted it to. John Neumeier it was to be, no chainsaw massacre… With lyric fragility the real life sequences were choreographed to the virtous sounds of Fail Soy…

In our view, blood does not just flow: it performs pirouettes, arabèsques – par terre or dans l’air, chassé, frappé, glissé… And that is that. We will stop copying from the grand encyclopedia of ballet.

Notation. Calculation and Form in the Arts (2008) is a comprehensive catalogue (in German) edited by Dieter Appelt, Hubertus von Amelunxen and Peter Weibel which accompanied an exhibition of the same name at the Academy of the Arts, Berlin and the ZKM | Karlsruhe. (ZKM)

Black (2010) by Susi Sie is focused on fear of the uncontrollable and its close relationship to fascination with the unfamiliar. All of its scenes were filmed with a Canon 5D Mark II, 100mm macro, and have been edited with no additional computer animation and effects. FLOAT (2011) by Susi Sie is a short film, that tells the story of our lives in an abstract and philosophical manner; birth and death, desire and fear, unique moments and the eternal cycle of things. All of its scenes were filmed with a Canon 5D Mark II, 100mm macro, and have been edited with no additional computer animation and effects.

The musical score, entitled Component 1, was composed by Thomas Schüssler, who sees himself not only as a musician, but also as a scientist and developer of advertising. (Susi Sie)

Pfadfinderei is a design bureau operating on an international level. Finding and visualizing paths was the approach that led to the name Pfadfinderei (engl. pathfinders/ boyscouts). Starting off in Berlin in 1998 as a vector orientated design bureau, Pfadfinderei soon expanded to what might be called an enhanced multimedia Wurstfabrik. The big passion of Pfadfinderei's members has always been live visualisation of music. Back in the days they were VJing in various Clubs, nowadays they are planning, creating and performing visual installations on an international level. (Pfadfinderei)

Voyage (1981) is an abstract video by Dean Winkler, Tom DeWitt, Vibeke Sorensen and Robert Lund. Music by Tom DeWitt and Vibeke Sorensen. A flight inwards and outwards, this piece is inspired by Marshall McLuhan's idea that electronic media extend our perception. (Vibeke Sorensen)

Onur Senturk studied traditional painting and figure drawing followed by a traditional animation degree as his BFA. He took part in several international and national collaborative exhibitions with works in both print and time-based media. Onur Senturk designed and animated Triangle which is awarded twice by Vimeo as best motion graphics and Nokta. which received honorary mention from Ars Electronica in Computer Animation/ Film /VFX category.
